Dedicated Doulas Birth and Labor Services has been working with New York women since 2002.
Doulas serve laboring women in whatever capacity the woman and her partner need no matter how simple or complex. We provide consistent, continuous, reassurance, comfort, encouragement, information, emotional and physical support to mom and her partner before, during and immediately after the childbirth. We offer a loving touch, positioning for comfort, massaging, soft music and nurturing techniques. We give ice chips and cold wash cloths. We walk with you and offer a solid base through contractions. We sing with you, laugh with you and hold your hand. We use breathing techniques, rhythm and relaxation techniques. We support the laboring mom and her partner with what they need to get through this empowering experience with strength, positive attitude, confidence and love. We give partners relief to take a break when needed, instructions and support in helping the laboring Mother, and we are there to help partners with their own emotions. Remember, experiencing the birth of a child is a very emotional time for partners, too.
What Doula’s Don’t Do: As non-medical professionals we do not perform medical tasks such as taking blood pressure, fetal heart checks, or vaginal exams. We do not make medical decisions for you. We cannot speak in your place to the medical team on your behalf.
Tom -Colorado.: “I was very nervous going into the birth experience. Every time a doctor or nurse left the room I checked with our doula to make sure that we understood what we had been told. She kept me calm, strong and sane.”
Susan - Long Island, N.Y.: My first birth ended with a cesarean section. I had no doula to help me get through the fear and anxiety of labor. I hired a doula for my second birth. She stayed by my side and kept telling me I was doing fine. She explained what was happening and why. She kept me positive, focused and confident. She provided support and reassurance for my husband which helped him relax and enabled him to help me remain calm as well.”
